THINK DIFFERENT IS OUR DNA
"As an architect I have a different way of looking at things like functionality and aesthetics. ECOPOTS is because of this no ordinary brand. What is logical to some I find unlogical and vice versa. With this, a brand evolves with a range of flower pots that not only distinguish itself through timeless design, but in which innovations are key in making life both easier and prettier. This synergy is my ambition. I am more than happy to take you on a tour on our innovations. Talking about it is one thing, seeing it is complety different altogether..."
“What can you do if you have a narrow windowsill but would really like a ‘proper’ pot on it? It's tricky, as they are (virtually) impossible to find. But what doesn't exist can—in true ECOPOTS style—always be made, and the result is the Sofia. A pot which is only 13 centimetres deep, with a conical shape which allows it to be used in the very narrowest of spaces. With a width of 30 centimetres, however, it really is a proper pot. So for that narrow windowsill or skinny table on your balcony, the Sofia means you can finally have the beautiful plant you wanted”.
A PROPER POT FOR NARROW SPACES
“It's obvious that plants usually require a lot of water on a regular basis, but it's still hard to work out how much water a plant needs. After all, overwatering isn't good either. Using a saucer is often the easiest solution, but it doesn't look too good and that made me think. Would it be possible to come up with a drainage solution which wouldn't just keep the roots free of saturated, wet soil but which could also serve as a water buffer in dry periods? A drainage system which is also attractive to look at, precisely because it can't be seen? That's how I created the Venice, in which the removable reservoir is incorporated into the design of the pot. You simply lift the pot off the base to check the water level or top it up. Once it's back in position, it forms an attractive unit once again. Easy to use and a decorative addition to the balcony or garden”.
DRAINAGE ECOPOTS STYLE
A HANGING POT WITHOUT HOOKS AND EYES
“I never used hanging pots myself, for the simple reason that I didn't like the look of them. The materials used aren't to my taste and there are also those ugly chains, eyes and whatever else you need to hang them up. There weren't many hanging pots on the market for a lover of sleek and timeless design. And that meant going back to the drawing board, where I used our (new) Brussels pot to design a hanging variant. It naturally has drainage, but with a suspension system which is fully incorporated into the design. No brackets, no eyes, nothing. Super sleek and timeless, just like ECOPOTS should be”.
I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE
“It's such a shame: you buy a beautiful, contemporary planter for your balcony, put some great plants in it, and then you end up putting the whole thing on a set of ugly brackets. It always bothered me, so I decided it was time to do something about it. Based on our Bruges planter, I therefore designed a balcony variant in which the suspension system is fully integrated into the design of the planter so it remains completely invisible. It's super sleek and timeless. Just what you would expect from ECOPOTS”.
THE HERB GARDEN ACCORDING TO ECOPOTS
“More and more often, you see people growing their own vegetables and herbs. It's healthy, delicious and of course lots of fun. The only thing is it's always such a hassle: you have head out to the garden or balcony with your scissors and cut what you need, only to find when you get back into the kitchen that you haven't quite got enough so you end up doing it all over again. I felt that it could be done differently. For example, wouldn't it be much easier if you could just take the whole pot of herbs into the kitchen with you? Of course, we already had our Berlin series which is extremely suitable for growing herbs. The Berlin Herb Table is a steel rack with a timeless design which holds three of these Berlin pots. It lets you get really organised on the balcony or in the garden and, at a height of 102 cm, it's great to work with”.
A POT SPECIALLY FOR ORCHIDS
“Orchids remain as popular as ever. I can really understand why: those amazing flowers, the lively colours... orchids bring life into the home. The only tricky thing is that orchids don't need a lot of water and are very sensitive about getting too much. The roots need to stay nice and dry, which isn't always easy to achieve in a normal pot or vase. That's how I came up with the Morinda: a pot which is specially designed for orchids, with a raised section in the base which allows excess water to drain away and keeps the roots nice and dry. Given the right care, orchids will grow and flower for a long time. Our Morinda pot now makes that a lot easier”.
LESS IS MORE
“As an architect, I like combining form and function and try to achieve a design which is timeless and simple. I want our pots and the plants they contain to be the centre of attention, and like to hide everything which detracts from that. So when we decided to develop hanging variants of both the Amsterdam and the Sofia, we wanted to be able to hang the pots from the wall ‘blind’. Our new, simple and almost invisible suspension system takes care of it. It's sleek, design-led and discreet. And it's really easy to remove the pot. Form and function combined, just as they should be”.
